Bird flu in Denmark

Denmark, formally known as the Kingdom of Denmark, is the smallest and southernmost of the Nordic countries. Situated north of Germany and bordering the Baltic Sea and North Sea, the country is spread along a peninsula named Jutland, and a few small islands, referred to as the Danish Archipelago. Greenland and the Feroe Islands are crown territories of this country, but they each have their own political rule.

Denmark confirms bird flu presence in domestic poultry

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

Denmark has confirmed cases of bird flu infections were discovered in a farm from the island of Funen. The entire flock was culled after laboratory testing revealed the highly pathogenic H5N1 virus was present in dead birds and all exports of poultry from the location have been halted. Until now only wild birds had been discovered to carry the virus, but the country was already alarmed by the rapid spread of the virus worldwide. The Siberian town of Omsk is one of the latest to report the virus affecting its bird population and the main fear now is that new strains could find a way to be easily transmitted among humans, which could give birth to a world epidemic causing high rates of mortality.
